We are an advocacy organization, but we also provide useful information and other services to members and friends.

Established in 2005, our non-profit organization is led by seven directors, four officers, a webmaster and volunteers on a number of working groups helping to promote FOOPD's mission.

Director's Duties

FOOPD is a non-profit, volunteer advocacy organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting the establishment and operation of permanent, suitable and attractive dog parks in Oak Park. Its Directors are responsible for determining policy for the organization, for establishing strategic goals and attainable objectives in pursuit of its mission and for recruiting members who share these goals and can further these objectives. Directors also represent the interests of FOOPD in dealings with the Park District of Oak Park, the Village of Oak Park and other entities, and the public at large.

The Board of Directors consists of seven members elected for one-year terms who appoint three or more officers. The Board meets monthly, currently on the second Sunday, at 9:30 a.m.

FOOPD's Position on Dog Parks

Oak Park requires proper, permanent dog parks. Safe, secure and adequate facilities are good for all our citizens. FOOPD supports this goal. Permanent dog parks:

• Provide needed space for active play and healthful exercise for both dogs and their owners.
• Enable dogs to socialize with dogs and with people, making them happier, better adjusted, and in general better "citizens."
• Take the stress off of other facilities frequented by dogs on leash.
• Make it easier to manage and monitor the dog population by promoting licensing and recorded immunizations for all dogs that use the parks.
